UAE, October 13, 2015 - Recent statistics revealed by Dubai Smart Government Department (DSG) ahead of its participation in Gitex Technology Week 2015, have shown that its ePay and mPay exceeded expectations over the first nine months of 2015 between January and the end of September.

The amounts collected through ePay rose by 30%, with a similar 30% rise in transactions from 32 government and non-government entities. AED 6.5 billion was collected through 5 million transactions from January to September 2015; as compared to AED 5 billion through 3.8 million transactions over the same period in 2014.

Correspondingly, mPay saw a 117% rise in the amounts collected and a 110% increase in the number of transactions from January to end September 2015; with AED 230.6 million from 455,591 transactions, compared to AED 106.1 million through 217,266 transactions over the same period last year.

Commenting on this progress achieved in the adoption of electronic and smart services, H.E. Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director General of Dubai Smart Government said: “These results clearly demonstrate the increasing pace of the electronic and smart transformation process in Dubai and our success in fulfilling the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for providing a world-class smart government to ease the lives of all segments of society and make them happy. This is substantiated not only by the growing interest of customers in using the ePay and mPay options to complete their government transactions but by their growing confidence in the efficiency and security of these options as well.”

Bin Humaidan added: 'The positive effects of payment, whether electronically or through smartphones, are not restricted to supporting the national economy and providing customers with open options for payment through multiple channels but extend to environmental sustainability, which is a mainstay of the green economy, which HH Sheikh Mohammed called for in his future vision of the UAE when he launched the UAE green development strategy under the slogan ‘green economy for sustainable development’. This is a long-term national initiative aimed at converting the UAE towards a green environment by reducing customers' use of vehicles and the effect of exhausts on global warming.'

The ePay service enables customers to electronically pay for most government services and fees including DEWA bills, Dubai Customs services, topping up Salik and Nol accounts from RTA, settling Dubai Police fines, donating to Dubai Cares, DHA medical fees and licenses etc.  Multiple options for ePay include eDirham, credit cards or direct debit from the seven banks participating in the service; namely: CBD, DIB, ADCB, ADIB, UNB, Emirates NBD and EIB.

Meanwhile, customers are increasingly taking to mPay for convenient payment on their smartphones, which allows for most used payment services from 9 government entities. The mPay app, for Apple and Android smartphones and the corresponding mPay website allows easy and convenient payment registration and payment options. Registered users of the app can pay DEWA bills, traffic fines, Etisalat and Du bills, RTA fees, some of Dubai Municipality and Dubai Customs services as well as donate to Dubai Cares and Al Jalila Foundation. Customization with credit card registration includes auto-payment, partial payment and control over the minimum balance and the maximum payment/recharge.

Those wishing to know more about ePay or mPay can contact the dedicated DSG call centre on 600 560 000 round the clock.
