  • Delegation of leading UAE businessmen, investors and officials to visit Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina
  • H.E. Buamim: Trade mission to Latin America is a major part of the Chamber's efforts to explore promising markets

Dubai, UAE, April 9, 2017:  The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has finalised preparations for its trade mission to Latin America, which will take place April 15-22 and cover Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

The Chamber will lead a high-level delegation of UAE businessmen, investors, and officials, who will represent a wide range of sectors, including trade, retail, free zones, food processing and logistics.

Delegates will visit the each of the countries where they will explore trade and investment opportunities and attend meetings with public and private sector representatives.

The trade mission, held under the Chamber’s Global Business Forum series roadshow, will support the organisation’s international expansion strategy, as well as its aim to improve the competitiveness of Dubai’s business community.

The first part of the trade mission will be held in Sao Paulo, where a series of meetings will be held with the city’s government and economic bodies. Delegates will then move on to Asunción, and later make their final stop in Buenos Aires, where several meetings with officials and local businesses will be on the agenda.

The delegation will be headed by H.E. Majid Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of Dubai Chamber, and joined by H.E. Hisham Abdullah Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice Chairman of Dubai Chamber, H.E. Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, H.E. Essa Al Ghurair, Chairman, Essa Al Ghurair Investment, H.E. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), Djamal Djouhri, CEO of Al Ghurair Resources, Dr. Mohammad Al Fahim, Senior Vice President – Corporate Development, Dubai South, Mohammed Al Sowaidi, Senior Vice President – Business & Government Relations, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, among other representatives from Dubai’s private sector.

H.E. Buamim explained that the trade mission to Latin America is a major part of the Chamber's efforts to explore promising markets that offer the most potential for its members and the wider business community in Dubai. He noted that discussions will mainly focus on priority sectors, including logistics, renewable energy, tourism, food processing, industry and mining.

'This mission will build on progress achieved by the Global Business Forum on Latin America, which was launched by the Chamber last year as a key platform for dialogue and economic cooperation between businesses in the UAE and their Latin American counterparts,” said H.E. Buamim.

Dubai Chamber’s President and CEO added that the trade mission will also help the Chamber as it prepares to host the second Global Business Forum on Latin America in early 2018, while it will also work towards forging important partnerships and expanding the presence of UAE-based companies in Latin American markets.

GCC countries rely heavily on imports from Latin America, especially in the category of agricultural and foodstuff products. However, considering the importance that Gulf countries place on food security, there is plenty of scope to enhance collaboration in this area as many Latin American countries aim to attract more foreign investment.
