The award aims to promote practices and techniques to improve energy efficiency, rationalize consumption and increase renewable energy

Dubai, UAE, April 27, 2019:  The Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai announced the launch of the fourth edition of the Emirates Energy 2020 Award, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, at a press conference held in the city of Casablanca in the Kingdom of Morocco. As part of the Council's strategy, the aim is to encourage innovative ideas from individuals and research centres, as well as public and private sector institutions to participate in the forthcoming award.

The launch ceremony witnessed the presence of representative of UAE embassy in Morocco and HE Ahmad Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Emirates Energy Award (EEA). Speakers at the event were Mr. Taher Diab, Secretary General of EEA and Mr. Ali Al Suwaidi, Vice Chairman of EEA Marketing and Events of EEA. A high-level delegation from the Moroccan Ministry of Energy and Minerals, representatives of public and private sector institutions, universities and research centers working on the development of renewable energy technologies and means of rationalization and energy efficiency in the Kingdom of Morocco also attended the event.

The Emirates Energy Award this year runs under a new theme - ‘Inspiring Innovation for Sustainable Energy’, to attract state-of-the-art innovations, technologies, solutions and practices on energy efficiency, water efficiency and renewable energy production. The award is a leading international platform for various public and private sector organizations, research centers and innovators to learn about the latest technology, solutions and energy technology. It also aims to serve as a forum to share insights and experiences in the development and application of energy projects that reduce the negative impacts of climate change and carbon emissions. In addition, EEA honours excellence across varied categories to encourage individuals and organisations to devise new mechanisms and techniques to accelerate energy efficiency and conservation as well as renewable energy production.

The press conference witnessed extensive interest by the audience to identify the details of the award, its categories and participation process. The Council's representatives underlined the importance of Emirates Energy Award in supporting and acknowledging best practices of energy conservation as well as they underscored the importance of innovation and low-cost measures in generating renewable energy.

HE Ahmad Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Emirates Energy Award (EEA) expressed his delight to launch the Emirates Energy Award in the Kingdom of Morocco – which is known for its international reputation and pioneering projects in the field of renewable energy. 

“The Emirates Energy Award is a reflection of the vision and direction of the UAE's leadership. In line with the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 that aims to support the country's endeavours, we hope to achieve sustainable development and preserve the natural resources for future generations. The award is in line with the eight principles of governance launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, that underscores the importance of improving people's lives, attracting talent and the best minds.”

He emphasised that the Emirates Energy Award primarily focuses on encouraging individuals and institutions to adopt innovative and pioneering solutions and policies in the field of energy conservation, renewable energy production, rationalization of energy and water consumption. The award also provides an ideal environment for the exchange of ideas, insights and solutions on innovative technologies to maximize and achieve the best possible results in future innovations. 

“The Emirates Energy Award is a pioneering platform to showcase latest innovations and technologies in the field of energy usage and rationalization. The participation in the award is a great opportunity for various energy and environmental companies, as well as institutions, universities and research centres to showcase their latest innovations to major international companies. We are confident that the Moroccan innovations will serve as defending competition to others, and provide a qualitative addition to the latest energy technologies,” he added.

The Emirates Energy Award (EEA) is a regional award that encourages the rationalised use of energy and resources. The award aims to highlight the best practices and pioneering work in energy efficiency, alternative energy, sustainability and conservation of the environment. The award recognises the efforts of the public and private sectors across the region in energy efficiency, energy projects and education and research in the energy sector. A special recognition award is also available for outstanding contributors to the energy sector.

EEA this year will honour distinguished innovations across 10 categories including - Energy Efficiency-Public & Private Sectors (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Energy Efficiency - Private Sector (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Large Energy Project (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Small Energy Project (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Connecting Solar Power to Buildings Project for Large Projects (more than 500 KW) (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Connecting Solar Power to Buildings Project for Small Projects (less than 500 KW) (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Education and Capacity Building  (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Applied Research and Product Development (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Young Professional Energy Award (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), and Special Recognition Award.
