Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates—23 February 2020: Abu Dhabi University (ADU) hosted the second edition of the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competition in a bid to create unique solutions to real world challenges. Held at ADU’s Al Ain campus, the competition brought together over 700 students from 32 public and private high schools in Al Ain.

Led by supervisors from their schools, contestants brainstormed practical solutions and put their knowledge to the test by answering a set of thought-provoking mathematical, science, technology, and engineering questions.

Dr. Hamad Odhabi, Campus Director for ADU Al Ain, commented, “Now in its second year, the STEM competition reflects Abu Dhabi University’s 2022 vision, in line with the UAE Government’s National Agenda to foster leadership, innovation and ambition. This competition allows students to improve their skills in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and encourages them to pursue careers in STEM - which will continue to be in demand. ADU will continue its work to empower the UAE’s young minds by developing well-rounded leaders for the future, capable of contributing to the UAE’s economy and able to embrace the digitally driven and fast-evolving world in which we live.”

Mr. Juma Al shamsi, Education Quality Improvement Officer, commented, “Through this STEM competition, we provided high school students with the opportunity to get a firsthand look into the University experience. Students displayed impressive potential and teamwork skills, and enjoyed practical applications of their theories during the 4-day competition.”

Chaired by Dr. Abdelkareem Alzoubi, the Scientific Committee awarded the first place to Shamma Hareb Al Kuwaiti, Saeed Shaiban Al Mheiri and Ali Sultan Al Nuaimi, representing Al Ittihad National Private School; second place went to Mustafa Khalifa Kassab, Bara' Wael Tailakh, and Rana Nizar, representing Al Andalus Private Academy; third place was awarded to Mahmoud Khalid, Syed Baqar Raza, and Mohamed M. Fakhri from Our Own English High School. The winners were presented with trophies, certificates, and cash prizes in a special ceremony held at Abu Dhabi University’s Al Ain campus.

In line with its vision to provide quality education and a truly global education experience, Abu Dhabi University has recently announced completion of 80% of the construction of its AED300 million new campus in Al Ain, which is set to open this year. The new Al Ain Campus will accommodate 2,500 students during its first phase with a total capacity of 5,000. It will include facilities occupying over 28,000 square meters during the first phase with more than 70 lecture halls and laboratories, 137 offices for staff and faculty, and state-of-the-art scientific equipment that meets international quality standards.
