July 25, 2021: Turn up the volume! For fall/winter 2021 we look to music icons – and style superstars – for inspiration. Marianne Faithfull is the muse – the ’60s singer’s bohemian look taking centre stage. We imagine her with Mick Jagger, partying at Truman Capote’s legendary Black and White Ball in 1966, or transported to the epicenter of the grunge scene – 1990s Seattle – with Courtney Love. The result is a collection that’s all about contrasts: the ’60s and the ’90s, soft bohemia and tough-luxe rock, glamour and grunge, comfort and cool, the feminine and the masculine. A celebration of fluid, anything-goes style, this season dress codes do not apply. Wear sneakers after dark and party dresses for day. It’s all in the attitude – doing, and wearing, things your way.

LOUNGE LIKE YOU MEAN IT

This is how to do off-duty in style. Loungewear is elevated to a luxe new level this season, giving it new go-everywhere appeal. In soft pastel and neutral shades, fluid fabrics and gently oversized cuts, highlights include jersey overcoats that drape across the body, ribbed tracksuits, cropped T-shirts and hooded or off-the-shoulder sweatshirts.

JEANS MEET BLOUSE

Starring pieces that can be easily dressed up or down, this chapter of the collection is all about versatility. Blouses are the hero; find them with pussy bows, ruffled necks, embroidered detailing and puffed sleeves. Team with high-waisted pastel denim flares for a look that’s both relaxed and refined. Elsewhere, silk and cotton jumpers have 24/7 appeal – try them with jeans crafted from denim that uses innovative washing and dyeing techniques. To complete the look, accessories like lizard print leather belts and bags add a touch of rock-n-roll attitude.

THE 1960S CALLED

With Marianne and Mick as our muses this season, we look to London – the hub of Swinging Sixties style – for a Mod-inspired take on the city’s eclectic fashion attitude. Graphic prints are the star, note the punchy plaid pieces in both black and white or unexpected colour variations. You’ll find them on double-breasted coats, maxi sweaters and natty suits. Nodding to the fact that the weather is always predictably unpredictable, adaptable styles – such as duster coats with a detachable check gilet, parkas and padded jackets – are a clever wardrobe addition. Complete the look with checked bucket hats and ankle boots with a Texan twist.

SQUEAKY GRUNGE

When the ’90s meets the ’60s, magic happens. Pumping up preppy polish with a laidback, grungy spirit, this is a masterclass in high/low dressing. Jackets rule here: key styles to note include the long-line double-breasted blazer, the denim jacket with cruelty-free fur lining and the new Jay jacket, a lightweight, boiled wool jersey design – the perfect trans-seasonal piece. Other key pieces for this drop include flirty printed dresses, a MAX&Co. signature, available now in blue and burgundy tones; swishy, pleated skirts in bright tones and metallic finishes and gradient striped sweaters. Extra-long chunky statement scarves, wide-brimmed hats and tomboyish shoes finish the look.

MARIANNE & CO.URTNEY

The ultimate fashion power couple. Here, the contrasting styles of our leading ladies – Marianne’s boho romance and Courtney’s grunge glamour – are blended together in perfect harmony. Outerwear leads the lineup, including classic checked and tweed coats. The cruelty-free reversible shearling coat is a collection standout. A double-duty piece, it can be worn in two different ways: as a boho-chic layer over printed dresses and knee-high boots, or worn as a Mongolian-style fur, for the ultimate frontwoman look. Impeccably cut and crafted suiting gives this chapter a sharp spin. Mix with tees and eco-leather pieces for an unexpectedly rebellious attitude. Mood-boosting knits and floral dresses also feature. An exclusive red piping – MAX&Co.’s signature brand colour - is featured on the inside lining of jackets and coats and rolled up jeans.

ECCENTRIC MANIA

The wear-as-you-wish spirit is writ large in this homage to eclectic British style. It’s all in the mix: florals with tweed, stripes with checks. Amped up for the modern wardrobe, we find tartan on wide-leg pants, sweatshirts and a contrast-check reboot of the kilt. Elsewhere, a leopard printed sweatshirt is an essential daywear ally, while three velvet styles – a mini, maxi and tunic – are a glamorous go-to. Also starring here are laidback-luxe pieces; note the jersey sweatshirts with thoughtful design details like contrasting stitching and knitted trousers that can be worn with coordinating tops. The ultimate finishing touches? Technical hoods with faux-fur linings to wear under matching alpaca peacoats. A series of pop-up stores and special windows by British interior designer Ashley Hicks dedicated to the Eccentric Mania capsule collection will be hosted in all MAX&Co. boutiques during the festive season.

THIS SEASON’S HEROES…

The Runaway and Shortrun: The bestselling, forever hero coats return, updated for now with printed linings and red piping,in a surprisingly bold seasonal palette of fuchsia, orange and royal blue.

Message Tees: Capturing the feelgood vibes of the collection, this season’s statement tees come with uplifting slogans, including #loveit! and #beyou #beMAX&Co.

The Joy Sneakers: Laidback enough for off-duty, luxe enough for the office, these cruelty-free

sneakers come in white or colour pop versions. Find them in contrasting materials: lizard print, brushed calfskin and a nappa-effect finish.

The Dot: A MAX&Co. signature, for FW21 the Dot bag is reimagined in velvet, lizard print, or with a tulip print inlay.

The Luna: With its circular hardware and cutout detailing, the Luna bag – which comes in three sizes – is available in smooth or lizard-effect leather, in black, brown, tan, mint, red and blush.

The Material: Heritage checks – like tartan and houndstooth – work their way from suiting onto roomy tote bags.
